A Free and Open Internet is a Free and Open Society
Dear Ladies + Gentlemen of the FCC :
I Make Movies + Music By + 4 Ninety-Nine Percenters
Did you know that the saying “ You’ll Never Work In this Town Again” …. is not just a joke?
The Media Industry has indeed, for many years, been monopolized by the few … who “hire” the “few” while “the many” – 99 percent of the other artists, who contribute to the “social fabric” of this culture, slave away, and sacrifice comfort after comfort – indeed dedicate lifetimes – to get a shot at fulfilling the “commands” of that very special “something” we are born with –
That – “command” to contribute with our voices, our bodies, our music … our souls … to the soul of this country and – to one of our greatest exports. Yes, I am very aware that movies/culture is indeed one of America’s Greatest Exports and I believe it is a crime of nature – that the few who “sell” / “greenlight” – play monopoly games with big budget “exports” – are the ones who make obscene amounts of greed – while also wielding absolute and equally (if not more) obscene power over “the many” who contribute their talents to that very product which garners so much revenue.
The ONLY hope artists have – is SOME small measure of independence from these obscenely greedy media giants.
But I believe – that the stakes are even higher. This American Culture and World Culture is at stake here. The artist has been suppressed for centuries – especially the artist who does not fit the “White Entitled Male” profile. The internet has provided some breathing room for those of us who do not fit that profile. By shutting off this oxygen – you will be strangling us – and the Culture itself.
As a female artist : an actor / filmmaker / singer-songwriter – who was on full scholarship all my life – the ONE and ONLY way I have been able to get my voice “heard” among the din of this Male – Dominated and Highly Sexist/Racist Entertainment Circus Is by working my ASS OFF (sacrificing comforts among other things ) – to create :
My Teeny Tiny “Studio” from which I create – along with OTHER FEMALE and DIVERSITY BASED LGBT/MultiRacial and ALSO some “White Male” Team Members – whom I include/employ (when they are not insisting to volunteer – which happens!) – and Share Credit / Honors : to create : Human Rights, Womens’ Rights, LGBT Rights + Civil Rights – based Media Content that WOULD NEVER BE CREATED ELSEWHERE.
I reach out to an EQUALLY DIVERSE AUDIENCE of FOLLOWERS Who have joined us on the journey to distribute these Cultural Products which are LITERALLY : "Made 2 Make A Difference ™"
The internet as it is now – , a FREE internet WITH Net Neutrality is the ONLY Truly Democratic Marketplace from which I can share news about my TINY upstart company.
If you give in to larger Corporations, thus removing my one and ONLY Merit-based – and democratic “outlet” = from which I can reach my current followers and future audience – you are saying to me – and to the many many artists, like myself – who poured out blood sweat and tears – for years – in vain – until we finally – FINALLY – found the one and only way – that provides us with a SLIVER of Hope – at surviving and making a living, somewhat independent of the “company store town” that is “Hollywood” and “Big Budget Entertainment Industry” – that you are willingly and knowingly – TAKING AWAY OUR ONE HOPE.

I asked Our Techie Guru, Aaron Abramson,
What he thought about Net Neutrality
and The Giantism we are witnessing as
Media Giants Buy Up
the VOICE of We The People.
Aaron’s Response was So SMART,
I’ve Included it Below :
I feel that the internet needs to be open in order to innovate.
The big telco’s like time warner, comcast, and ATT argue that an open internet will hurt the internet but the fact is that an open internet with regulation will require innovation to keep up.
This whole “fast lane” proposal is also junk. It either has to be all open or not. Consumers already pay for their internet speed. Businesses do the same. This is just another ploy for big telco’s to make even more money with little investment in improving the experience.
An open internet will do what Obamacare has done to medicare. Make it hyper-competitive, affordable, and better. There is also a reason why the medical field will have immense job growth over the next decade, its because of Obamacare. Same can be said of net neutrality. The need to innovate without limit becomes a job creating factor.
The only people who don’t benefit are people.
The corporations like time warner and comcast (should be) forced to finally spend money on things like improving infrastructure … which they don’t do.
In fact net neutrality also improves infrastructure and by extension, national security.
A better infrastructure is more durable and flexible in an emergency.
There are only tangible benefits to open internet. There are no tangible consequences with open internet.
People who say “net neutrality with hurt innovation” are conveniently hiding behind the vague definition of actual innovation.
Overall if you like to pay more than once for a service that is now a common utility in our lives, and hate having a fast and always available internet, you should hate open internet.
But most people agree that an open internet is necessary for our country to move forward and remain relevant in an ever evolving global economy.
