I live my life in a positive frame of mind, guided by nature.

The Sky, Ocean, Birds, Fish, People, and Art, inspire me.

Life Is Beautiful, because it MUST.

The other day, I heard a discussion about “Nihilism”

On the always excellent NPR Shows “Radiolab”/”OnTheMedia”

What I heard, inspired me to share,

This Moment In History, is Critical For Both Humanity

and Nature,

and also, for the Artist.

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ALERT. The Artist is in CRISIS.

“Posturing” and “Look At Me” Culture Hogging

by the One Percent,

Or the No Percent

Buying, Thieving, Or Bullying CULTURE

In Acts of gluttony.

Every Artist you know, can share stories

of outright “Thieving” by some Hack,

shamelessly, gleefully picking out  ”Materials”

from living breathing artists,

expecting us to be grateful for their theft –

We then become like an Abused Wife in a Domestic Crisis,

Making Excuses for the Abuser …

because we Love What We Do

and are there-fore vulnerable to the Cynics.

Yes, as artists, we all use the world as our “Material” –

and yes “creative commons” has it’s place

(it’s own form of optimistic nihilism)

but there is a reality out here for the 21st Century Artist,

the same reality for every artist in every century ….

We are the keepers of the innocence …

but I worry for our own innocence,

if we become cynics too … 

If we are silent, maybe catatonic?

when our work is “abused” and as society’s lack of

respect for the artist deepens –

we open our mouths in a “silent scream” –

watching those with Self-Satisfied Cash 

Or Soul-Killing Petty Theft

“Buy” Or Steal their way

into a world of Sacred Craft and Holy Grit.

Dear World, Culture is made, not bought.

Artists are the Shamans,

the Mystics,

We Enter Caves daily 

Emerging for you,

and we don’t do it for the money,

You will know us by our love.

But HELL … we do need to eat,

we need roofs over our heads too,

we are Ninety-Niners

which is why we experienced the Crisis

before that expression was ever born. 

So, to get back to my grappling with

the Discussion about “Nihilism” in all it’s forms, 

I am proposing, that dialectic itself, is a cure for Nihilism

( if one wants a cure, and i do ).

I Make Art to Communicate,

To Contribute to the Dialogue between us

Because I Believe It Saves Us Daily.

To The Voice of Martin Luther King Jr. 

Because I love Great Music.

The Force and Lift of this Great Man’s Words,

This Great Man’s Spirit,

His Voice,

Undeniable.

The Great Mind of this Great Man,

Eternal.

Mother Earth

Is forever Blessed With our Fortune,

Martin Luther King Jr.  Lives

Among us, 

Still

Loves us,

So very much.

So,

One day,  

I had a Dream Too.

A Dream,

About A Dream,

About A Dream.

In that Dream, I heard the word :  “Woman” 

Spoken,

In that Great,

Voice,

The Voice of Justice.

“She” is Equal

In the Voice,Equal to ”Man” and “Mankind.”

“She” is “Woman”

And Also

“She” Embodies

The Multiplicity of LGBT

The Blossoming Of Every Gender

Under The Civil Rights Rainbow™

“She” Bridges 

“She” Completes the “HerStory” 

In “HiStory”

Thus Embracing “Femme” in Every One.

I heard the words :   “Sisters” … and “SisterHood,”

Equal,

To the words “Brother” and “BrotherHood,”

Celebrating Every Gender Identity

On a Never Ending Spectrum 

Of Love Equals Love …

I Listen

To the Speeches of Dr. King

And I know 

That I hear him right.

Humanity Must Grow As Sophisticated

As Technology Or We Lose Both™
